Features
BigWigs is a boss alert mod. It consists of many individual "boss modules", mini addons that are designed to trigger alert messages and timer bars for one specific raid boss each. Modules are activated when you target or mouseover a Boss, or if any other BigWigs use in your raid does. In most cases only one module will be running at any given time.
- Alert messages
- Timer bars
- Target painting (put an icon over a player that has been singled out by the boss)
- Sending alerts to RaidWarn and tells
- Suppress "spam" sent by other player's bossmods
- Syncing via the addon channel (so that the player doesn't have to be in combat range to get trigger messages)
- FuBar/Minimap button for easy access to the configuration menu, resetting running modules, and seeing what modules are active.
- And lots more!
There are also a lot of 3rd party modules available, like CommonAuras, C'ThunAssist, HealbotAssist, ThaddiusArrows and more. Some of them might be found here, but all of them can be found at http://files.wowace.com
Pre-TBC content is available to everyone for download from http://files.wowace.com
The Creation
BigWigs is a boss timer and warning mod. Tekkub, the original BigWigs for Ace1 author, was inspired to write this after his very first raid run. He was horrified by the massive amount of spam his raid leader was creating with his boss mod. He was getting messages all over the place for things he didn't care about (Hunters can't dispell a curse or interrupt a heal). He also found that the "60 seconds until painful doom" timer messages were such a waste. Why not use a nice simple timerbar to show this?
The Revelation
So the solution was simple, provide a better set of boss mods. Show info in the most relevant way possible, and give the user control over their mods, not the raid leader.
The other part of this solution was to create a simple plugin to block incoming bossmod spam. To accomplish this he wrote BossBlock, which is now included in BigWigs 2.0.
The Revolution
Now there's a few other things that distinguish BigWigs from that other boss mod. First off, the timer frame is movable, as is the message frame if you choose not to send your alerts to the RaidWarning frame. There's a larger variety of sounds available, so more important messages can grab your attention while simple info messages won't drive you to sticking sharp objects into your speakers. BigWigs is also designed to only monitor a boss if you are nearby. This means you must target or mouseover a boss to enable that boss's module. When the boss dies the module will disable itself, after sending a nice "you killed it!" message.
The best difference, however, is one you can't see. BigWigs will take advantage of the new addon communication channel to send sync messages. This means that modules that rely on combat log triggers, like detecting when Ragnaros is engaged after a wipe, can trigger even if the player isn't in range to catch the combat log message. The only requirement for this to happen is that another BigWigs user is in range of the event. This sync system has the potential to allow for detailed info to be exchanged between BigWigs users, for instance the player in C'Thun's stomache can update the rest of the raid with data automatically.
A FuBar plugin is embedded in BigWigs to allow for easy configuration. If you don't use FuBar, then you will get a minimap icon that provides access to the same menu.
The Warning
Please be aware that some BigWigs modules are still in a beta stage. The core design is in, and most of the modules have been written and tested, but there's still some oddities. You can expect the bosses in the newer zones to not be as consistant as those in Karazhan, because there hasn't been much in-game testing done yet. Please bear with us, it's only going to get better.

mscott998can you add a test function for the proximity meter use for Gruul's so it can be viewed and moved prior to the fight

realeI'm not seeing an easy way to increase the width of the bars and remove the icons? Also, is it possible to have an option to place the timer outside the bar (right or left)?
Thank you!

Jalba@funkydude
I wasn't trying to threaten in any way. I can try to fraps some of the encounter for you, don't know how much that would affect it though. As the below poster said, Tainted timer is off by about 5-10 seconds (Usually when our RL is calling out "10 seconds to tainted" it spawns). Strider timers for us have been off by about 10 seconds as well. Elite timers seem to be a bit better. Could this be someone in the raid using an outdated version and it broadcasting the incorrect timers? or is that not how the program works? I will be trying DBM for the first time on Vashj tonight, and if it works better, I can try to look into the code to see how the timers for Vashj are different than yours.

BlueGlyphI also have some comments on the Lady Vashj fights. The strider timer are near to 100% accurate, I use this timer to know when to catch them for kiting. However, the Tainted Core one is off by a few seconds (3-4 maybe?). This is quite annoying, and the DBM one appears to be more accurate (according to my friends).
Another thing is that the Leotheras fight have been changed, and BigWigs haven't been updated in a long time. Maybe the creators are not doing SSC anymore? Anyway, Leotheras cooldown on WW doesn't tick in the Demon Phase anymore, it resets when the Human Phase starts. So the WW cooldown timer should show up in it's full duration when the Huma Phase starts, instead of the "WW soon" which is indicating that the cooldown is ready.
Just some small notes I found while farming SSC.
Great addon BTW.

funkydudeHi Jalba, I'm not sure what makes you think DBM is more accurate, after looking at DBM's code its clear that they are using the exact same time as us, so you must be seeing things :)
You have 2 options:
1. Go use DBM anyway, your threats couldn't make me care less. 2. You can give us some helpful advice like what the timer should be, preferably with some research and evidence of why it should be what you claim, then I will adjust the timer.

JalbaDont know if this has been mentioned before or not, but the timers on the Vashj encounter are EXTREMELY unreliable. For example, last night, we were holding our last core until we could get the Naga that was still up down to a safe %, and we clicked the last generator with 10 SECONDS left before the Strider spawn, and bam...new strider pops. Is there anything you can do about this? because otherwise the Deadly Boss Mods are dead on on the Vashj encounter, and our guild will be moving over to them full time.

funkydudemscott998 BigWigs already has a distance frame, it appears when you engage Grull, if its not appearing you probably don't have BigWigs_Extras turned on in the addons menu

funkydudeFaoite008: no 2 mods in the raid won't affect timers at all, its more a problem with the way blizzard have timed it, it used to be pretty exact but after 2.1 blizzard changed it to be more random, the timer is more of a 'safe zone' cooldown, he can cast blast nova any time after the bar expires. We highlight this by using a '~' and by specifying 'cooldown'

Faoite008We noticed last night that the Mag countdown bar until he Blast Nova's was off. First BN it works great but seems to be loosing time gradually between each occurance. Is this issue known? Also we have some people in raid that uses DBM and a few of us with this. With the raid using 2 different boss mods does this corrupt timers maybe? Any other issues with 2 mods within the raid?

funkydudevash12788, firstly make sure you have the latest wowaceupdater, (1.9.x something) then try using the reinstall all addons function, it tends to fix a lot of things.

vash12788Love this boss mod and have been using it since it came out but i recently replaced all of my mods with ace2 equivalents and am using the wow ace updater to update all my mods at once. But for some reason whenever it downloads the latest version of bigwigs the folder has the mod itself but never the individual instance modules, they just aren't there. Is there anyway you can fix this?

pinkfloyd188sorry, wasn't very clear on my questions. i was actually asking 2.
1) is there a way to make the warnings that appear in raid chat show up on raid warning instead?
2) can i adjust the time for certain warnings?
