!! Version 2.0 - Now lets non-rogues view rogue skill, blacksmithing key, and engineer seaforium charge information. !!

This is a reworked and updated version of the popular "Picking Skill" addon. New container information has been added from the expansion (Burning Crusade) and a new layout has been developed.

Rogue:

 	- What the minimum skill needed is.
 	- What your current skill is.
 	- Whether you can unlock the box or not.

Not A Rogue:

 	- How skilled a rogue has to be to open it.
 	- What blacksmithing key is required to open it.
 	- Which engineering seaforium charge is required to open it.

Works On:

 	- Containers in your backpack.
 	- Containers that you see in the chat channel.
 	- Containers in your loot window.

[Credit]

 	- Rhodri who originally credited the addon.
 	- Executioner who helped me test the addon.
 	- BlackZam who requested seaforium charge information be added.
 	- WoWHead.com for providing the item numbers.
 	- WoWWiki.com for providing the list of locked containers, chests, and junkboxes.

[Change Log]

Version 2.0 (Monday, June 18, 2007)

  - Added seaforium charge information for non-rogues

Version 1.1 (Saturday, June 16, 2007)

  - Fixed coloring issue with skill comparison.

Version 1.0 (Friday, June 15, 2007)

  - Initial Release

Installation Guide

  1. Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
  2. Download the mod you want to install
    • Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
    • Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
    • If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
  3. Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
    • Windows
      • Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
      • WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
      • WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
    • Mac Users
      • StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
  4. Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
  5. Move to the Addon folder
    • Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
    • Go into the "Interface" folder.
    • Go into the "AddOns" folder.
    • In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
    • The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
    • Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
  6. Start World of Warcraft
  7. Make sure AddOns are installed
    • At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
    • If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
    • If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.

Translations

When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".

TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)

When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.

If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support

WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

Not sure whether to bother with the fix as this addon is defunct in 2.3 as Blizz are adding it to the default Interface .

did the fix posted, it stops the errors i used to have, but... now the mouseover just shows the normal tooltip, not the skill required and so on.

it does show the skill and key required to open the lockbox, but only for a split second before reverting back to the normal tooltip. you can keep moving mouse over the lockbox and see the outlines of the text like it has been before, then move mouse off lockbox and back onto it fast, you can see the old tooltip we used to see... but again only a split second before it reverts back to the normal tooltip.

i use tiptac, maybe that may be messing with pickingskill if the fix works for everyone else. I'll try loading just picking skill and tiptap later and see if thats the issue.

Change lines 195 and 197 to include the self parameter, as follows:

function PickingSkill_ContainerFrameItemButton_OnEnter(self) -- Mouseovering items in backpack Original_ContainerFrameItemButton_OnEnter(self);

Hey thanks for the tip. I just added the self parameter to the two lines you mentioned, and it seems to be working again!

I'm currently working on the issue. I'm not that versed in the art of addon scripting. This was not an error pre-patch 2.2, so it makes me want to think Blizzard could have possibly changed something. Looking into it -- any help would be greatly appreciated. Check back soon!

I play with Ark Inventory, and I've been getting NO bag tool tips unless I turn off Pisking Skill....this might help track down the problem.I don't think it matters what version or which author took over or the original, I think it's in the coding. IMO

[2007/09/28 06:24:44-120-x174]: Interface\FrameXML\ContainerFrame.lua:602: attempt to index local 'self' (a nil value): PickingSkill-1.0 BETA\PickingSkill.lua:197: in function <Interface\AddOns\PickingSkill\PickingSkill.lua:195> <in C code>: in function `ContainerFrameItemButton_OnEnter' ArkInventory-2.10\ArkInventory.lua:4215: in function `Frame_Item_OnEnter' <string>:"*:OnEnter":1: in function

Thanks for giving me a heads up on the error. Haven't gotten to play much lately. Except an updated version soon. That will fix this error, and the incorrect value error. Thanks for the support.

I had a similar experience with that error, and finally figured it out. I hope it can be fixed, I really like having it around.

broken as of 2.2

took me forever to figure out what the culprit was with the framexml\container... etc error. itemrack, monkeyquest had same issue and are now fixed. I have 9 total toons, and 2 were still having the error after i updated the mods. pulled my hair out trying to figure out what the problem was, had to go compare mods turned on with toons that did not have errors, this was the problem.

i play both horde and alliance, BOTH my alliance toons had this problem... my rogue is 70 with 350 LP, no need for the mod on horde anymore, but i like being able to know which level LP/Key is needed on alliance cause i can just send any lockbox to my rogue on horde side and have him open it.

turned the mod off, everything is fine. turn it on, error when mouse goes over any inv item.

I believe the LockPicking level for Reinforced Locked Chest is wrong. Addon says 75, but I can't open it. I get the skill not high enough message. According to Wowwiki.com and Wowhead.com, you need 250 to open these.

The addon has like 8,000 download, and no one else has reported this problem. If it is not showing up properly in your addon list you may have gotten a bad download. Please try to redownload the addon, as no one else has reported this problem. As far as I can tell everything is working just fine. If you still can't get it to work please post more details.

All skill levels were researched on Wowwiki.com and Wowhead.com, all the values are correct. Glad you got the problem straightened out.

It is a fresh install of the mod . I deleted the original folder and replaced it with the new one . Khorium was just an example .

Eternium shows as 225 as do thorium, mithril and reinforced steel .
